Lorna Johnstone
When joining The Right Fit, I lost 8kg of body weight within the first 6 months, a great start! Building on this, my teammates and I won the The Right Fit Takapuna 8-week Exercise Challenge later that year. During the following year, I was the female TRF New Zealand 8 Week Fat Loss Winner. I was also nominated Takapuna Client of the Year during this time.
Prior to joining TRF Takapuna, I was reasonably fit but was plagued with chronic low back pain and fear of re-injury. Within several months of a targeted resistance training programme to strengthen my back musculature, the pain began to resolve and soon disappeared altogether. This had a hugely positive impact on my mobility, sleep quality and mood! Aside from my own personal fitness goals, the wonderful people that make up the TRF Takapuna community have become an integral part of my life, and their friendship and support are incredibly important to me.
My trainer Chris has been instrumental in achieving the results I’ve had so far and has become in equal parts friend, coach, and mentor. He is the most talented and knowledgeable personal trainer that I have worked with and his genuine focus on his client’s wellbeing makes him so skilled at extracting the best out of them.
We are currently working towards making progress in some strength outcomes. One of my longer-term goals is to consistently squat more than my bodyweight. Another goal is to take part in the next Exercise Challenge!
Marla Boland
When starting at The Right Fit 6 years ago, I was 80kgs and the heaviest I had ever been without being pregnant - I had never been so unhappy with the way I looked.
Through my journey here at The Right Fit I've lost 20kgs, to which some of those kgs have been lost and found more than once! However, with that being said I feel like within this past year I have finally broken the code for my lifelong healthy eating habits through the The Right Fit macros system and am finally feeling really happy within my current self.
I've done a lot of different types of exercise over the years prior to joining The Right Fit and have always grown bored with them over time, but with The Right Fit this is far from the case and the feeling of being in such a like minded community of people all on similar journeys, it makes it easy to want to be here and a part of it all.
My trainer Chris has been a huge part in my success. Chris always pushes me harder than I think is possible and is why I have had such great results. I know I would not have had the drive to keep going on this journey if not for him - I would be lost without him.
Continuing on with my journey, we are currently working on my strength at the moment and maintaining my current weight!
Michael Boland
When I joined The Right Fit, I was 54 years old, weighed 100kg, and got puffed walking up several steps. I was thinking about retiring at 60 years old. Each morning for morning tea I had a massive scone with butter, often had seconds and always dessert. The mindset was I needed this to help fuel me up for the day. I was in complete denial of food and the effects of overeating. I had constant back pain, joint pain, and general discomfort. My wife Marla would point all this out to me, but I denied it. She led the way and joined The Right Fit about nine months before me. Without her none of this could have happened.
I then began a journey that has truly been life changing. I have had three amazing trainers. I started with Clinton who softly and gently got me started, always believed in me, and helped me appreciate the process will take time. He told me and I did not believe him that one day I would be 80 kg again. The most memorable experience with Clinton was to run around the lake with him. Next came Choong who did lots of work on posture and good lifting technique. He mobilised me and straightened me out. The highlight with Choong was winning the longest plank challenge. Now I have Chris who is “next level” with amazing knowledge and feel for what his clients need. He constantly adjusts my programs, working through the ups and downs of the cycles we all go through. With Chris the highlights have been winning the Takapuna 8 Week Fat Loss Challenge twice, the second time being NZ winner.
Now I am 60 years old weigh 20kg less and am training to do the Auckland Half Marathon. From a few steps to a half Marathon, 100kg to 80 kg, never in my life been as all around fit and strong. I have energy to get through my day, look at food totally differently and feel I could easily continue working for years and years.

After slowly getting fatter and fatter over the last 10 years and making all sorts of excuses that I was not bad or dieting was just too hard - a trip to the doctor and blood tests revealed very high cholesterol levels.
My doctor had advised that if I did not get those levels down, I needed to go on statins. Then came COVID and more excuses stopping me from doing something to improve my health! But deep down I knew I really did have to do something and decided to look at getting a personal trainer to help me. I felt having someone else would make me more accountable and more likely to make some changes.
A TRF gym advert popped up on Facebook - I got in touch - met Chris and the rest is history.
The whole wrap around service from The Right Fit is brilliant. Learning so much about how important nutrition is and having Kate guide me through the macronutrients has changed everything! All the personal trainers at The Right Fit are so friendly, they all know you by name and the total support and encouragement is just amazing!
Having Kate as my trainer and joining The Right Fit, is one of the best decisions I have made in my life.
I am so much healthier, fitter and happier. And yes, my cholesterol levels have come down to healthy levels. I am amazed at how easy it has been to lose weight! At the expense of sounding cliche, starting at The Right Fit in my 60s has been a life changer. Never in a million years did I believe I would be where I am now. I thought at aged 63, when I first joined, that I was reasonably fit, after all, I had been going to another gym for over 4 years, but I knew I was carrying a little too much weight. Over a period of a year, I lost 17kg and have managed to maintain it. I have become fitter and stronger, and have developed some real definition. I feel I can take on the world. Even when I fractured my wrist earlier in my membership at The Right Fit, and couldn't use that arm for 4 months, Matt, my trainer, worked around this to continue towards my goals. For this, I am extremely grateful.
I have a renewed energy and have become a more positive person in general. I feel that I can look forward to being an active and energetic grandmother, when I am blessed with them, and that I will be able to continue to work full-time as a teacher of adolescents, well past retirement age.
My match with Matt has been outstanding! He is understanding and patient, pushes and encourages me to realise my goals. He has shared some great nutrition ideas and has helped me improve not just my strength, but my balance and overall fitness to a level I would dare say I have not enjoyed since my 30s. Matt is genuinely concerned about his clients and takes an active interest at all times. Matt, and the community at The Right Fit have been major players in my transformation - Thank you!
I am currently working on maintaining my present weight, which is my goal weight, and furthering my strength and conditioning.

Joining in 2020 was the best decision I ever made. I knew it was going to be hard, challenging and an ongoing journey however the reason why I have been so invested in them is all to do with the mantra of taking personal accountability. They pour their heart and soul into helping us achieve our goals, helping us break through the physical and mental barriers that I had created for myself.
They have transformed my attitude into I CAN succeed, I CAN change and I CAN win. This is back to taking personal accountability to my life.
The biggest reason for this, is Max's devotion in guiding me through this journey. He literally helped move the mental barriers that were stopping me from achieving my goals. The fact that we work as a team opposed to an authority figure really helped me understand that we were in this journey together. He not only focusses on the physical, but more on how can I make you feel better about this, how can we make this work? Which I feel highlights how much he cares and that he is truely passionate in me going where I want to go. They are all great qualities in a trainer and a life coach.

I love how friendly everyone is every time I come into the studio. Being greeted warmly and feeling welcome creates an awesome community atmosphere. Each week, Max and I work towards the goals we've set, with regular check-ins to keep me on track and accountable. In just 5 months, I've lost 15.5 kg. Max not only tells me what to do but also explains why we're doing it, which makes a big difference. Plus, I've gained valuable nutrition knowledge, ensuring this is the last time I'll need to lose weight.

After gaining weight during the COVID lockdowns, I joined The Right Fit in January. I was skeptical of the process: I had a large goal. On the one hand it felt like an impossible task and on the other hand my self esteem was tied up with the success or failure of this next journey I was about to take.
Being in that state of mind, I always appreciated the support and encouragement Ricky provided me on a regular basis. Step by step you would start to see small increments of progress which would reinforce that I was on the right track!
The app was super helpful to educate me on macros and how I could balance my day out even if I wanted to eat my favourite treats! It all came down to the numbers and it instantly gave me peace of mind that if I followed the process I would get the results.

I am so stoked with losing the weight over the last few weeks. I'm fitting clothes that I've never fitted before and noticing muscles I didn't know existed! My weight gain started slowly (but steadily!) before COVID, and unfortunately exploded over the past couple of years. With the stress of lockdowns, a change in life circumstance, and various issues with mental health I was in a bit of rut, feeling like I would never be able to pull myself out.
When it all finally got to be too much, I plucked up the courage and made an appointment to speak to a trainer at The Right Fit. I knew if I was to make the changes I wanted to make, I was going to need that extra support!
Although in the past I had managed to maintain my fitness by doing home workouts, I had spent too long starting and stopping new routines. I felt completely unable to build the necessary habits and stick to them, and had lost a lot of confidence because of that.
The Right Fit finally changed things for me! Having a personal trainer help you set goals each week, keep you accountable, encourage your wins, and support you through any slips ups was exactly what I needed to rebuild that confidence and rediscover just how motivated and disciplined I could be! I was paired very well with my trainer Jameson, who has similar life experience to me, and whose energy and sense of humour really make that difference! Not only that, but the availability of group classes, social events, the app, and the friendly and supportive environment mean I am finally making serious progress on my goals!! I am happier, more active, and more confident because of that progress! It also finally feels like a sustainable lifestyle change instead of a 'diet' or temporary routine!

My journey has been full of SO many obstacles, from family loss to injuries and illnesses but I’ve only really been able to maintain my health and fitness because of my trainer and friend, Ricky!
He never pushes me beyond what I can handle (emotionally) and is embracing and supportive of all my goals in and out of the gym! Since joining I’ve been focused more on feeling healthy and fit rather than losing weight and setting different goals to reach; thrashing exercise challenges when they arise, running the full 8km during Round the Bays after an ankle injury recovery, and completing nearly 30pushups in a set.
I’m proud of myself for all I’ve achieved and even more grateful to have been invited into The Right Fit community! Such a genuine and encouraging set of trainers!

Having just turned 50, I successfully turned around my physical health and fitness after years of desk work and neglect. By joining The Right Fit Personal Training Ponsonby and working with my trainer, Javahn, I developed a personalised workout plan that changed my life. When I first came to the gym, I hadn't been doing anything for my health and fitness. My concern was that my desk job would soon catch up with me, affecting my overall well-being. Recognizing the need for change, I set an initial goal to drop my visceral fat levels and decided to grab the process with both hands and own it.
Under the guidance of my trainer, I absorbed information like a sponge. With dedication and consistency, my visceral fat level dropped from a 6 to a 2, reaching an optimal level. This achievement fueled my motivation, and I shifted my focus towards gaining strength and muscle.
My top piece of advice for anyone embarking on a similar journey is to set clear, achievable goals and fully commit to the process. Embrace the learning experience and be open to absorbing as much information as possible from your trainer. Consistency and focus are key to making progress.
Looking ahead, I plan to continue my fitness journey by concentrating on gaining strength and muscle. I'm excited to push my limits further and see how much more I can achieve with dedication and hard work. This journey has not only transformed my health but also instilled a sense of discipline and purpose that I carry with me every day.
